CBSA considers closing Aldergrove border crossing to truck traffic (6/2/2009)

Summary: The following appeared in today's edition of "Canadian Transportation & Logistics".

Local media is reporting that the Aldergrove, BC, border crossing may be shut to all commercial truck traffic. News1130 all news radio is reporting the Canada Border Service Agency wants to shut the crossing to truck traffic, since it wasn’t originally built to accommodate commercial traffic. About 100,000 trucks use the border each year, making it the 12th busiest commercial truck crossing in Canada. "Closing that crossing will add costs for the industry, will cause delays, and of course when you think about it from a climate standpoint, trucks travelling extra distances to go across other border crossings will only add to greenhouse gases and smog emissions," B.C. Trucking Association chief Paul Landry told the radio station.
